North Carolina received its Seventh American Viticultural Area (AVA) this year. Don't know what an AVA is? Just think of Napa and Sonoma. Immediately you think of great wine producers that are known for their terroir and great taste. North Carolina's been known for it's great food, and it has continued, in the background with stubborn dedication, to let people know that before Prohibition, NC State was the largest wine producer in the USA. North Carolina is known that your dollar goes further and your vacation is longer.

These wine regions are for traditional Vinifera and Hybrid grapes - Think Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay and Montepulciano. And also think of the outstanding Hybrid varieties of grapes like Chambourcin, Chardonnel, Vidal Blanc, and Prairie Star to name a few. Hybrid grapes are bred to withstand more fluctuations in temperatures and to fight vine stress and diseases. So you have the old guard and the new guard. So these seven AVAs have different regions - from the Mountains to the shore, we've got it covered like Europe on a discounted flight.
