Grassy Creek Tasting Room

Grassy Creek Vineyard & Winery has been open to the public since 2005, welcoming people into their renovated Red Barn. I remember when we were welcomed into the winery on Superbowl Sunday in 2016 towards the end of the day. There weren't many people out that day, so we enjoyed some special attention. The fireplace was roaring and so inviting. It took off the chill, along with a red Barn Yard Red. We were told that the fireplace was built with rocks from the Grassy Creek river just a short walk from the tasting room. If you get a chance, make sure to plan some time to take a stroll along the creek. We brought home a bottle of Barbera that we had with our ribs, and it paired perfectly with them.

The tasting room itself is very inviting, along with a hearty welcome from the staff. The atmosphere pays homage to the barn's past with horseshoes around the eves. The upper loft is still there that used to store the hay for the former occupants. The wines are made from the 30 acre vineyard that you'll see on your way into the property. Grassy Creek Winery also sources grapes from Troutman North Carolina from a vineyard, where their winemaker Jim Douthit planted. The whole process is an extended family affair with the Jim and his wife Cynthia, and Derrill and Lori Rice joined with them from the beginning. They also have had help from other families and the community who come together to make it happen.

No matter what time of year you go to the vineyard, you'll find a place to relax. This spring we were out at their shaded tables and enjoyed the warm breeze out of the sun. Or if you want to stay overnight, there are secluded luxury cabins that you can rent on the estate to allow you the opportunity to hike around the grounds and enjoy the space even more. In fact, if you're looking for a location for a friends/family group stay, you can rent the entire grounds for a great reunion. And you don't have to go far for some wine.

Grassy Creek's wines are made from well known Italian and French varietals. So if you like wines made from the varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, then you'll find them and others in their wines. The taste run from dry to sweet, so you'll have a wide variety to choose and taste to discover what suites you.

There are events for you to enjoy on a regular basis. So check out their events on Facebook and their Web Page to plan your next get together.
